Organizing for Action
Friend --

Today, we're releasing our first quarterly fundraising numbers at Organizing for Action, and I couldn't be prouder.

In just the first few months of this brand-new organization, 109,582 supporters stepped up and invested in what we're building together -- from the grassroots up.

To anyone who thought we couldn't do this, these numbers send a pretty clear message. It's never been done before, but supporters like you are doing it.

Now my question to you is: Are you going to let those founding members do it all on their own, or are you going to join them? It's not too late.

Chip in $5 or more right now to become a member of Organizing for Action today.

Here's something else I'm proud of: Our average donation is just $44.

That's incredible, and the way it should be.

People -- especially the special interests on the other side -- are taking notice of what this grassroots-funded organization is up to. We're digging in, we're speaking out, and we're amplifying the voices of ordinary Americans on some of the biggest issues of our time.

Don't miss your chance to be part of this movement: We're off to a running start, and we're not turning back.

Go on -- make a donation of $5 or more today:

Thank you for everything you're doing.

Very soon, the Senate will be getting ready to vote on common-sense proposals to reduce gun violence -- centered around universal background checks.

More than nine in 10 Americans agree on this, but there are still some in Congress who have committed to standing in the way with whatever political games they can use. Some are even trying to prevent the issue from being debated at all.

Now is the time to stand together and demand action.

This Saturday, along with our friends at Mayors Against Illegal Guns, folks across the country are holding community events to demand a vote on reducing gun violence -- and there's one near you, in your community.

We need you to be part of this. RSVP for the community event to reduce gun violence in Montclair today.

When senseless tragedy struck Newtown, Connecticut, in December, we promised ourselves that we would act -- that we would do whatever we could to make sure that no family has to go through what the families in Newtown experienced.

We owe it to those families -- and to every family that has been victim to gun violence -- to keep that promise.

That's the message this weekend, and it's why OFA supporters are getting together to make our voices heard. If we stand together, we can go toe-to-toe with the powerful gun lobby -- and win.

Make sure you're a part of it.

If Thursday was any indication, the NRA and the rest of the gun lobby better watch out: Last week's Day to Demand Action to prevent gun violence showed just how much support there is for common-sense legislation like universal background checks.

Here's a quick report back:

-- Grassroots volunteers held more than 130 events across the country with thousands in attendance, from Tucson to West Palm Beach to Portsmouth.

-- Supporters who couldn't make it spoke out online: The hashtag #DemandAction was the #1 trending topic nationally on Twitter, and our top Facebook post received more than 116,000 likes and 23,000 shares on Thursday alone.

-- Our volunteer-led events received local and national media coverage on news outlets across the country, including CNN, Fox News, and hundreds of local ABC, NBC, and CBS affiliates.

Members of Congress were back in their home districts last week, and I guarantee they heard our voices.

Whether they do the right thing and pass legislation 92 percent of Americans support -- or cave to the powerful gun lobby -- depends on what we do next.

Thanks for saying you're ready to fight for gun violence prevention. Will you forward this email to five friends and ask them to add their names to yours?

I wanted to make sure you knew about the event happening in Clifton on Saturday.

The Senate is moving forward on legislation to reduce gun violence, but we saw yesterday exactly why we've got to keep the pressure on. The special interests in Washington are going to do whatever they can to stop every gun violence prevention measure -- and more than 30 senators voted to keep legislation from even coming up for debate.

The event this weekend will be a time for OFA supporters to come together, remember the families torn apart by gun violence, and say with one voice: We have not forgotten, and we demand action from Congress.

Last week, a bipartisan group of eight senators introduced a bill that could pave the way toward passing comprehensive immigration reform.

OFA supporters across the country are doing what they do best -- organizing to get the word out about this reform bill. We're hosting a major Day of Action the first week of May, and we want your help in getting people to be a part of it.

Will you come out to a phone bank in Jersey City on Tuesday and ask folks to get involved? Here are the details:

What: Immigration phone bank in Jersey City

Where: 60 Romaine Ave
Jersey City, NJ 07306

When: Tuesday, April 23rd
12:00 pm

This is a huge moment for President Obama and for anyone who believes we need to fix our broken immigration system. The President made it clear last year that comprehensive immigration reform is a big part of his agenda -- and we can help him keep that promise to the American people.

Even more importantly: We can literally change the lives of millions of immigrants and DREAMers -- including the 11 million people currently living in the shadows. This bill will go a long way toward securing our borders, providing a pathway to citizenship, and reducing the current backlog of applications.

And here's the best part: It's absolutely achievable. This is a bill that can pass the House and the Senate, but only if we're willing to fight for it.

This will take time -- we're not going to finish this fight today or tomorrow, that's for sure. So we've got to start laying the groundwork now.

Come out to the phone bank this Tuesday in Jersey City -- and let's go:
